Weekend Streamers: 5 Guys to Grab Now to Finish Strong

It’s Thursday, and the midpoint of your fantasy baseball week. Are you winning? Congrats. Are you losing? I’m sure it’s just bad luck and/or your opponent is cheating. Either way, if you’re looking for some solid arms to help you win pitching categories over the next few days, I’ve got you covered. At the end, I’ll also be recommending a strong but short-shelf-life beer to go with your strong but short-shelf-life starters!

Thursday’s streamer: Eduardo Rodriguez (BOS)

I talked about this guy yesterday in my Wednesday Waiver Wire Wars piece, and he’s still a widely available bargain at just 52% ownership on ESPN.

Rodriguez has a spiffy 3.07 ERA to go with a 1.26 WHIP, but his real value is in the strikeouts he provides, whiffing 37 batters in 29.1 IP. E-Rod is facing a potent Brewers offense, but the young southpaw has been stellar all season, giving up three or less runs in every start after his 5 ER season debut, including stringing together three consecutive Quality Starts.

Go grab him now before lineups are locked!

Friday’s streamer: Jessie Hahn (OAK)

Jessie Hahn Solo is matched up against the decidedly meh offense of Texas on Friday, and his 3.03 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and 30 K’s in 35.2 IP make you wonder why the young right-hander is only owned in 20.2% of ESPN leagues.

He had a rough outing last week against a hot Tigers offense, but prior to that, all 5 of his starts were QS.

Alright, Jessie, let’s get cooking.

Not that Jessie.

Saturday streamer(s) – Trevor Cahill (SD)

Another guy that I’m shocked is only owned in 42% of ESPN leagues.

Cahill has a sexy 3.06 ERA and 1.16 WHIP to start the season, but his real value is in his ability to K batters: racking up 44 strikeouts in just 35.1 IP. A crappy, free-swinging White Sox offense is just what the doctor ordered for those of you who need strikeouts.

Bonus Saturday streamer (if you’re a gambler): Kevin Gausman (BAL)

He’s probably available in your league since posting a hideous 6.63 ERA and 1.74 WHIP over his first 8 starts of the season. However, Gausman is coming off a great start against a nasty National’s lineup; going 7 innings with 2 ER and 8 K’s. Gausman will look to build on this success against the (also) putrid San Diego Padres KC Royals, who can make anyone look like a Cy Young candidate. It’s Gausman though, and he’s made it a point to shit the bed this season, so stream with caution.

Sunday Streamer – A.J. Griffin (TEX)

Griffin got a lot of attention after tossing a CGSO earlier this week…against San Diego, the aforementioned worst offense in baseball. Now he has a chance to build on that success against an equally pathetic Oakland team.

Don’t look now, but Griffin has held teams to four or fewer runs in every start this season to the tune of a 2.45 ERA and a sparkling .85 WHIP, while striking out nearly a batter per inning. Owned in just 38% of ESPN leagues, he should be a reliable stream start this Sunday.

Streaming Beer – Enjoy By IPA (Stone Brewing, CA)

You’ve gotta have a cold beer to go with cold lineups. Stone’s latest edition to their unique “Enjoy By” series is a hoppy, crisp Double IPA that’s fresh and piney.

The Enjoy By series is a cute gimmick by the California brewery that is specifically designed to be consumed by the date on the bottle (usually coincides with a holiday, including Valentine’s Day, 4/20, and now Memorial Day) for guaranteed freshness.

This Double IPA is a bold 9.4% ABV and 90 IBU’s, so hopheads rejoice. It’s moderately bitter, piney, smooth, and very clean. I get some mild hints of citrus, grapefruit, and Stone yeast in a surprisingly non-boozy, easily drinkable sip. The freshness of the beer is on full display, and a quickly disappearing beer should go well with your quickly added and dropped streamers.
